Bulls Finish 2-1 at Syracuse Invitational
Matikosh and Henry Named to All-Tournament Team
SYRACUSE, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team finished 2-1 at the Syracuse Invitational with a win over Brown, 3-1, and a loss to the host Orangewomen, 3-0, today at Manley Field House. With a 2-1 showing at the tournament, Buffalo’s record now stands at 4-6 overall. Junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and sophomore Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
 | | Kathryn Henry | In their first match of the day this morning, Brown took the first game by a 30-23 score, but the Bulls came back with 30-23, 30-24 and 30-22 wins in games two through four to earn the 3-1 victory. Matikosh led the Bulls with match highs of 25 kills and 17 digs, and Henry added 11 kills, eight digs and three service aces. Freshman Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) had 47 assists, and freshman Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) posted a match-high five blocks. Senior Amie Wall (Eden, NY/Eden/Daemen College) and sophomore Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster)also recorded double figures in digs with 11 and 12, respectively.
 | | Lindsay Matikosh | The Bulls were then shut out by the host Orangewomen in the tournament’s final match, 30-12, 30-24, 30-28. Matikosh posted a team-high nine kills, and Henry added seven kills and a team-high 10 digs. For the tournament, Matikosh finished with a team-leading 48 kills and 31 digs, and Henry added 34 kills, 11 service aces and 25 digs to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
The Bulls are next in action on Tuesday, September 17 when they travel to Binghamton for a 7pm match. They are looking for their fifth win of the season which would tie last year's win total. The Bulls dropped a 3-2 decision to the Bearcats earlier this season at the Illinois-Chicago Invitational on September 7.
