BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team put its name in the school record books with its 3-1 victory over crosstown rival, Canisius, Tuesday night at Alumni Arena. The Bulls achieved their 10th straight win on the season, surpassing the record for victories in a row as a Division I school. The old record was nine, which was set by the 1995 squad.

The Bulls pulled out a hard fought victory over Canisius, 30-20, 30-26, 27-30, 30-28. The Golden Griffins had an answer for everything following the first game and put forth a solid defensive outing. However, the Bulls again outhit their opponent, this time .259 to .167.

It was the upperclassmen getting it done on the evening as two seniors both set career highs. Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat), who is playing her first season as the team’s primary setter, notched a career-best 56 assists. Fellow senior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) recorded a career-high 24 kills, en route to hitting a .283 on the night. Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) tied her career high with a 30-dig performance, as she was one of five UB players with double-digit digs. Clark and Mapé both completed the double-double, notching 16 and 10 digs, respectively. Also recording a double-double was fellow senior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater), who finished with 17 kills and 12 digs.

However, the newcomers got into the action as well and contributed to the team effort. Freshman Lauren Fensten (Centennial, CO/Smoky Hill) notched a personal-best 12 digs and sophomore Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) notched eight kills and four total blocks, including one solo. Sophomore Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) recorded seven kills on the evening and a match-high six total blocks.
