BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team travelled to cross-town rival Canisius on Tuesday night, but was unable to defeat Canisius as the Bulls fell in three games to Golden Griffins at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Bulls have just three matches left before beginning Mid-American Conference play next weekend.

Canisius took the first game 30-20 as the Golden Griffins hit .440 during the opening game. Junior Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) got off to a quick start during the opening game as she had six kills on seven attempts to pace the Buffalo offense.

In game two, the Bulls scored the first five points due in part to the serving of sophomore Ellen Robertson (Middle Island, NY/Longwood). After a Canisius point, senior Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) served UB to two straight service aces, prompting a Canisius time out. The Bulls went on to score 12 of the first 16 points of the game. Canisius would not go down quietly and moved to take an 18-17 lead in the game. The Golden Griffins would eventually go on to win game two 30-27.

Canisius took the early lead in game three scoring five of the first six points for the advantage. The Golden Griffins would never relinquish that lead as they took the final game 30-15.

UB was led by a match-high 10 kills from Neba and seven kills from sophomore Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) who did not record an error in the match. Freshman Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had a match-high 28 assists, as well as recording a solo block. Robertson and senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) each recorded six digs for the Bulls.

Canisius was led by nine kills from Michella Domo and Brittany Gerde and 17 assists from Lauren Lackovich and Gerde. Jess Stackhouse added 10 digs on the night.

The Bulls will wrap up non-conference play this weekend as they head to the Coastal Carolina Invitational. UB will face Delaware at 10:00 am on Friday and the host Chanticleers at 7:00 pm. The Bulls conclude the tournament against Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 11:00 am.
