Bulls Compete At Pittsburgh Invitational The University at Buffalo volleyball team was unable to pick up a victory in its four matches this past week, losing in a five-game thriller to Niagara and dropping all three of its matches at the Pittsburgh Invitational. UB did show some bright spots with the biggest being a 21-kill career-high performance from sophomore Maria Mezzadri (Livonia, MI/Livonia Stevenson).
Garcia Named To All-Tourny Team The accolades kept rolling in for senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) this past weekend. After a week where Garcia set the all-time digs record at UB, the senior libero was named to her second straight all-tournament team, this time at the Pittsburgh Invitational. Garcia currently leads the Bulls with 161 digs on the year and has 1,607 digs for her career. Mezzadri Making An Impression Sophomore Maria Mezzadri has played in eight matches for UB this season and is currently leading the team in kills per game with 2.56. Mezzadri, who didn’t see any action last season, is currently third on the team with 64 kills. Mezzadri also has two assists on the year, a service ace, 11 digs and four total blocks for a UB team full of freshmen and sophomores.
Freshman Continue To Play Well Many of the UB freshmen have played the majority of the 2007 season including setter Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Schlegel has 355 assists on the season and her 18 service aces are also tops on the squad. Schlegel has helped direct the UB offense and has helped freshman Marisa Hornbaker (Colorado Springs, CO/Colorado Springs Christian) continue to put up good numbers. Hornbaker is currently second on the team with 78 kills as she has seen action in 11 of Buffalo’s 12 matches on the year. Hornbaker has eight service aces on the year. Up Next
The Bulls continue their seven-match road trip as they head to cross-town rival Canisius on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. The Bulls will round out non-conference play this weekend as they head to the Coastal Carolina Invitational. UB will face Delaware at 10:00 am on Friday and the host Chanticleers at 7:00 pm. UB will wrap up the tournament on Saturday at 11:00 am when it faces Gardner-Webb. |
