Bulls Conclude Washington State Tournament

Senior Katie Weekley had 29 kills, 13 blocks in final two matches

PULLMAN, WA - The University at Buffalo volleyball team concluded the Washington State Tournament Saturday in Pullman, WA. The Bulls dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Cougars, 30-23, 30-24, 24-30, 30-25, in their first match of the day before falling to Oral Roberts by another 3-1 score in the nightcap, 30-22, 30-26, 22-30, 30-18. Senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) had 29 kills and 13 blocks in the two matches to lead the Bulls’ attack. Weekley had 37 kills (3.36 per game) with a .360 hitting percentage and 16 blocks (1.45 per game) in Buffalo’s three matches at the tournament.

Weekley led Buffalo against Washington State with a team-high 15 kills and four blocks, including two solos, while junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) posted a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Junior Jenna Mape (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) had 14 kills and nine digs, and senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded 48 assists, 10 digs, two kills and three blocks.

The Cougars (4-2) were led by Natalia Owens with 19 kills and eight blocks. Jessie Camp had 12 kills and Jen Barcus and Kelly Rosin added 10 kills apiece.

Against Oral Roberts, Weekley again led the team with 14 kills and a match-high nine blocks. Junior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) had 10 kills while tying her career high with seven blocks, and sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a match-high 21 digs. Sophomore Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) recorded a career-high eight kills and tied her career high with 10 digs.

Oral Roberts (5-2) was led by Ori Zuzic with a match-high 25 kills and Cris Alves with a team-high 18 digs.

The Bulls (4-4) are home on Tuesday night, September 13, at 7 pm against local rival Niagara. The match will be broadcast live on WLVL 1340 AM.
