Bulls Take Two More To Win Crusader Classic
Freshman Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) contributed big in both victories, using her ability to block in the opener and then set a season high in kills against Army. Lueders had four solo blocks in the opener and three block assists, as the Bulls had 14 total team blocks against the Crusaders. Against an Army squad that was 7-1 coming into the contest, Lueders hit a .448 with 12 kills and just two errors on 22 total attacks. The freshman middle blockers also had two solo blocks and three blocks assists against Army.
Lueders joined senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) on the all-tournament team. Clark put together two solid performances finishing with 36 and 35 assists, respectively, on the day. Senior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) had two double-digit kill performances with 11 against Holy Cross and 10 against Army. UB dished out 15 service aces on the day, including nine against Holy Cross. Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) contributed with four of the aces and also tied for a team-high nine digs and then added 11 digs against Army. The Bulls out-hit their opponent in both contests hitting .274 in the opener and following that up with a .220 against Army. Holy Cross hit -.010 for the contest and Army hit the ball a little better at a percentage of .089. UB returns home on Tuesday night to face cross-town rival Canisius.
