Volleyball Shuts Out Canisius, 3-0

Molly Schrantz leads Bulls with 12 kills, 14 digs

BUFFALO, NY - Four players recorded double digits in kills to lead the University at Buffalo volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Canisius tonight in Alumni Arena. Game scores were 30-22, 30-27 and 30-17. The match was the inaugural event in the newly-renovated Alumni Arena, which has undergone a make-over during the summer months, including new chair-back seating on both sides of the court and renovated bleacher seats on the ends. The win improves the Bulls' record to 3-2 on the season while Canisius falls to 0-4.

Senior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) led Buffalo's attack with 12 kills and a match-high 14 digs. Sophomore Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, and freshman Tammy Julé (Regina Beach, Saskatchewan/Riffel) and junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) each reached double figures in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Weekley had a match-high five blocks, while sophomore Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) contributed three blocks and six kills. Junior setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) had 44 assists, nine digs and four blocks, and libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) finished the match with 10 digs.

Canisius was led by Kim Hoffman and Christina Wildes with 12 kills apiece. Lauren Lackovich had 24 assists and eight digs, and Jess Stackhouse had 12 digs.

The Bulls will participate in the Montana State Tournament this weekend with matches scheduled against Boise State and Montana State on Friday and Dartmouth and Portland on Saturday.
