Volleyball Drops Two Matches at UMass Invitational

Bulls Lose to Massachusetts and Dartmouth; Matikosh Named to All-Tournament Team

AMHERST, MA - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped two four-game matches at the Massachusetts Invitational this afternoon to fall to 2-4 overall on the season. The Bulls lost their opening match of the day to the host Minutewomen, 30-21, 25-30, 30-23, 30-18, and then lost to Dartmouth in the nightcap, 21-30, 30-21, 30-28, 30-23. Sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) represented the Bulls on the All-Tournament Team after leading the team with 48 kills, 40 digs and eight service aces in their three matches.

In the Bulls' first match of the afternoon, Matikosh led the Buffalo attack with 12 kills and 14 digs, and senior setter Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) contributed 33 assists. Sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) again led the Bulls with seven block assists while also adding nine kills. As a team, Buffalo posted 11 total blocks during the match.

Against Dartmouth, Matikosh again led the way with 15 kills and 13 digs, and LaCour finished with 41 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) posted a career-high 12 kills and six assists while also adding eight digs, and senior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) also added 12 kills to the Bulls' total.

The Bulls are off until next weekend when they travel to Baltimore, MD to compete in the UMBC Tournament on Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15. The Bulls are scheduled to play Morgan State at 2 pm and UMBC at 8 pm on Friday and Virginia Commonwealth at 3 pm and Loyola at 5 pm on Saturday.
