BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team lost two matches to open the Orange Classic, a five-team invitational being held at Syracuse University.

In their opening match of the tournament, the Bulls lost three straight games to undefeated Southern Illinois University, 15-8, 15-11, 15-6. Junior Wendy Ryder (Bernhards Bay, NY/Genesee Community College) led UB with eight kills on 18 attempts and two blocks. Freshman Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) had a team-high six digs, one block and two kills, and junior Amelia Liddle (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) had three blocks.

The Bulls then dropped three games to the host Orangewomen, 15-12, 15-11, 15-7. Junior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) led Buffalo with 13 kills on 25 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage while also adding eight digs. Ryder chipped in eight kills, one block and one service ace.

The Bulls' (2-3 overall) final two matches of the Orange Classic are tomorrow when they face Fordham at 3 pm and Maryland-Baltimore County at 5 pm.
