Junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) posted career highs in both kills (29) and digs (23) in the five-game loss to the Bearcats, making her just the sixth player in UB volleyball history to record over 20 kills and 20 digs in the same match. Matikosh represented the Bulls on the All-Tournament Team.

The Bulls opened the day against Iowa, and the Hawkeyes rolled to a 30-17 win in game one to take control of the match. Buffalo battled back in game two, however, and a kill by freshman Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) gave the Bulls an 11-10 lead. Buffalo led by as many as three points during the game before the Hawkeyes came storming back and tied the score at 29-29. Iowa had two chances to end the game, but kills by sophomores Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) and Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) kept things going until a kill by Matikosh and an Iowa ball-handling error ended the game in the Bulls' favor, 35-33. The Bulls then jumped out to a 5-1 lead in game three and were ahead 18-17, but the Hawkeyes took the game by a 30-22 score and followed that with a 30-19 win in game four to end the match. Matikosh finished with a match-high 18 kills and 12 digs, and senior Amie Wall (Eden, NY/Eden/Daemen College) had a match-high 17 digs.

In their final match of the tournament, the Bulls found themselves in a 2-0 hole when Binghamton held on for close wins in the first two games, 30-26 and 30-27. Buffalo came alive in game three, jumping out to a 12-6 lead and ending the game at 30-18 on a kill by Schrantz. Binghamton took an early 3-0 lead in game four and led by 17-14 midway through before the Bulls mounted a comeback. A kill by Matikosh ended the game in UB's favor, 30-27, and knotted the match at two games apiece. In the fifth and deciding game, the Bulls found themselves playing catch-up until a kill by Weekley put them ahead 11-10. The Bearcats would not back down, however, and they earned the final five points in the match to take a 15-11 win. Matikosh led the Bulls with match and career-highs of 29 kills and 23 digs, and Schrantz also posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) added 10 kills and Henry contributed 16 digs to the Bulls' effort. Freshman setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) finished with 47 assists and eight digs.

The Bulls (2-5 overall) are now off until next Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14, when they participate in the Syracuse Invitational. Buffalo faces Colgate on Friday at 5 pm and Brown and Syracuse on Saturday at 11 am and 7 pm, respectively.
