Volleyball Falls Short at UMass InvitationalAMHERST, MA - The University at Buffalo volleyball team opened up play at the Massachusetts Invitational this evening in Amherst, MA with a hard-fought, five-game loss to New Hampshire. UNH won the first game by a 30-27 score and seemed in control of the match after a 30-12 win in game two, but Buffalo fought back with 30-25 and 30-28 wins in games three and four to force a fifth and deciding game, which New Hampshire narrowly won by a 15-13 margin.
The Bulls were led by sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) who posted a team and career-high 21 kills, a .417 hitting percentage and 13 digs. Senior setter Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) tallied 41 assists and tied her career high with a team-leading 23 digs, and senior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) added 13 kills to the Buffalo effort. The Bulls posted seven team blocks during the match, led by sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) with a team-high five block assists. The UMass Invitational continues tomorrow with the Bulls taking on host Massachusetts
at 12:30 pm and Dartmouth at 4:30 pm. |
