Volleyball Finishes Strong at Duke Classic

Bulls fall to Duke, beat UNC-Charlotte to end tournament with 2-1 record

DURHAM, NC - The University at Buffalo volleyball team earned a split in its final two matches of the Duke Classic in Durham, NC on Saturday, falling to Duke by a 3-0 score (30-18, 30-23, 30-18) before rebounding for a 3-0 win over UNC-Charlotte (30-28, 33-31, 30-27). The split gave the Bulls a 2-1 record in the tournament and improved their season record to 4-3 overall. Freshman Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and junior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

Morzenti and senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) both reached double figures in kills against the Blue Devils with 11 and 10, respectively, and sophomore Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded a match-high 11 digs in the loss.

Against UNC-Charlotte, Matikosh posted 12 kills and a match-high 16 digs while senior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) and sophomore Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) added 10 kills apiece. The Bulls recorded 14 blocks in the match as a team, led by Weekley with seven, including four solos, Bouie with six (two solos, four assists) and Brown with four (all assists). Brown also added 40 setter assists and 11 digs in the victory.

The Bulls (4-3) will participate in the UCF Fall Invitational next weekend, playing host Central Florida at 7 pm on Friday, September 12 and Georgia Southern at 11 am and fellow Mid-American Conference member Central Michigan at 5 pm on Saturday, September 13.
