Bulls Begin UIC Invitational With Loss to Flames
Alexis Bouie leads Buffalo effort with nine kills and four blocks
CHICAGO, IL – The University at Buffalo volleyball team began the Quality Inn/University of Illinois-Chicago Invitational with a 3-0 loss to the host Flames this evening at the UIC Pavilion. The Flames controlled game one, winning by a 30-15 score, and then went up by two games with a 30-24 win in game two after the Bulls had fought back to get within three, 26-23. The Flames ended the match with a 30-14 win in game three.
 | | Alexis Bouie | Junior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) led the Bulls' effort with team-highs of nine kills and four blocks. Junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) added six kills, seven digs and three blocks, and sophomore Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) recorded a team-high 10 digs. Freshman Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) finished the match with nine assists and eight digs. The Flames had three players post double figures in kills, led by 11 apiece from Gina Caneva and Lindsey Filkins. Teaha Shepperd posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
The Bulls (2-3) play Iowa at Noon and Binghamton at 6:00 pm on Saturday. Iowa defeated Binghamton tonight, 3-0, in the opening match of the UIC Invitational.
