BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team kept its winning ways alive on Tuesday night, as the Bulls defeated Syracuse, 3-0, at Alumni Arena. The win streak is now at six matches, which is the longest winning streak since the Bulls took eight in a row in 1997.

UB took the three games in dramatic fashion, winning, 30-28, 30-28, 30-24. The biggest comeback was in the second game, as the Bulls saw themselves down 22-15. However, the Bulls turned their fortunes around and took the game. Senior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) finished with a match-high 15 kills, while also contributing with three service aces and three digs. Fellow senior, Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) finished the evening with 11 kills and 10 digs, putting her over 900 digs for her career. Morzenti also had a team-high four service aces for the Bulls.

UB continued to show why it is the top blocking team in the MAC, recording another nine total team blocks. Freshman Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield), the MAC’s leading blocker, added another seven block assists to her career. Her block total was tops in the match.

Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) finished the night with a team-high 32 assists, while junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) contributed a match-high 14 digs.

UB showed its ability to come back in matches, being down in all three games, but were able to get points when it mattered. The Bulls outhit Syracuse in the match, .240 to .179 and left their best hitting performance for the third and final game where they hit .351. They needed every bit of that .351 as the Orange hit .324, their best performance in the three games.

UB has now won its first four matches at home and will try and keep the streak alive on the road as it heads to the Holy Cross Invitational this weekend. The Bulls face Rhode Island on Friday, Sept. 8 at 5:00 pm. That will be followed by a pair of matches on Saturday, beginning with the host Crusaders at 2:00 pm and Army at 5:00 pm.
