Bulls Host WNY Invitational, Pick Up First Win The University at Buffalo volleyball team picked up its first win of the season this past weekend during the Western New York Invitational. UB defeated South Florida in a five-game thriller, defeating a Big East team for the second straight season. Buffalo had three players with double-digit kills and four players with double-digit digs. The Bulls won a game against Albany, who was a NCAA Tournament participant last season. The Great Danes won the match 3-1 to end the WNY Invitational. Garcia Sets Digging Record Senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) became UB’s all-time digs leader this past Saturday night, breaking Ann Reed’s 16-year old school record. Garcia entered the match against West Virginia six digs shy of the record and after four digs in game one, set the record during game two. Garcia had 11 digs for the match and followed that up with 20 digs against Albany. Garcia now has 1,551 career digs as she keeps building on the record. Garcia Racking Up More Honors Senior Lizaiha Garcia was named to the all-tournament team of the Western New York Invitational, following her record-breaking weekend. Garcia had a season-high 22 digs in UB’s five-game victory over South Florida. Garcia also reached the 20-dig mark against Albany to conclude the weekend, helping her garner all-tournament team honors. Garcia currently leads the team with 105 digs through the first eight matches of the season.
Aces Wild The University at Buffalo volleyball team is currently fourth in the MAC in service aces with 1.71 per game. The 41 total service aces are currently the third highest total in the conference. Freshman Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) is currently tenth in the conference in service aces as she is averaging 0.46 per game. Junior Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) currently has seven service aces, while Lizaiha Garcia and freshman Richelle Bigelow (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) each have six.
Lueders Continues Where She Left Off Sophomore Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) had an excellent freshman campaign last year before an injury forced her to miss most of the year. However, Lueders has continued where she left off last year, particularly in the blocking department. Lueders currently leads the team with 23 total blocks, including three solos. She has teamed up with fellow middle, freshman Kristin Bignell (Drayton, Ontario/Norwell District), who has 19 total blocks, including four solos. Last season, Lueders spent most of the season in the MAC rankings for blocks. Up Next
