Bulls Go Undefeated at WNY Invitational
In their first match of the day, the Bulls pulled out a dramatic 3-2 win over Army, 30-18, 30-24, 34-36, 27-30, 15-10, led by five players in double digits in kills and three with double-doubles in kills and digs. After Buffalo won games one and two, the Black Knights (1-1) tied the match at two games apiece with an emotional 36-34 win in game three and a 30-27 win in game four. Army could not keep the momentum going in the deciding fifth game, however, as the Bulls controlled play from the start before ending the game and the match on a service ace by sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek).
Army was led by Briana Stremick with 19 kills, Rachael Breinling with 12 kills and four blocks and Elizabeth Lazzari with eight kills, 14 digs and five blocks. Buffalo picked up right where it left off to score an easy 3-0 win over Colgate, 30-24, 30-22, 30-15, on Saturday night. Mapé tied her career high with a match-high 16 kills, and Brown posted a double-double with 39 assists, 13 digs and four blocks. Weekley added eight kills and a match-high five blocks, and Morzenti contributed seven kills, nine digs and three blocks. Katrina Zawojski had 14 kills and Jackie Adlam had a match-high 20 digs to lead Colgate (0-3). The Bulls travel across the country next weekend to participate in the Washington State
Tournament in Pullman, WA. Buffalo takes on Idaho at 8:30 pm ET on Friday, September 9 and then
Washington State at 2 pm ET and Oral Roberts at 8:30 pm ET on Saturday, September 10. |
