Volleyball Gets First Win at WNY Tournament

Katie Weekley and Tammy Julé lead Bulls to win over Binghamton

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team earned its first win of the 2004 season this afternoon in its opening match of the Western New York Tournament. The Bulls swept Binghamton in three games, 30-26, 30-25, 31-29, in a match played at Niagara University.

Junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) led the Bulls with 12 kills and four blocks, while freshman Tammy Julé (Regina Beach, Saskatchewan/Riffel) added 11 kills, three service aces and two blocks. Senior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) had nine kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) recorded nine kills, eight digs and three service aces. Junior setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) finished the match with 37 assists, nine digs and three blocks.

The Bulls (1-1) play Texas-Arlington at 10 am and Stony Brook at 4:30 pm on Saturday. Both matches will take place at Canisius College.
