UB Volleyball Finishes Second at Morgan Classic InvitationalBUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo played to a second-place finish in their own UB Morgan Classic Invitational today, losing to St. John's by a 3-0 score (30-22, 30-19, 30-25) and defeating Canisius 3-0 (30-22, 30-18, 30-22) to end the weekend with a 2-1 record. Senior setter Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) and sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) were both named to the All-Tournament Team. St. John's went home with the tournament title after posting a 3-0 record, and SJU junior Sarah McCrary was named Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Buffalo rebounded for a sweep of Canisius in the final match of the tournament, led by sophomore Becky Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood) and Schrantz, with 15 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) finished with nine kills and a match-high 14 digs, and Matikosh added eight kills and 13 digs. Other members of the All-Tournament Team were Debra Falkenberg from Stony Brook, Kim Hoffman from Canisius and Robyn Kurasaki and Mischara Saunders from St. John's. The Bulls are now off until Friday, September 7 when they travel to Amherst, MA to participate in the UMass Invitational with New Hampshire and Dartmouth. |
