A native of nearby Brockport, NY, Short comes to UB from Springfield College in Springfield, MA where he was a four-year letterwinner from 2000-03 and served as the women's junior varsity head coach and men's varsity graduate assistant coach in 2004. Short was a three-year team captain and a standout setter at Springfield College where he led his team to three straight Molten Division III men's volleyball national championship titles in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He graduated as the school's all-time career leader in assists (4,728), and his 12.88 assists per game are second all-time at Springfield. Short also amassed 434 digs, 69 service aces, 178 block assists and 188 total blocks in 367 games during his career. Short was an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Division III first-team honoree in 2003 and a second-team selection in 2000 and 2002. He was also named to the Molten Division III Championship All-Tournament Team in 2000 and 2003. Following his playing career, Short began his collegiate coaching career at North Carolina where he was a volunteer assistant coach with the women's volleyball team in 2003, when Lodes was an assistant coach. Short assisted with on-court training, film breakdown, scouting and on-campus recruiting for the Tar Heels before returning to his alma mater. He served as the women's JV head coach and men's graduate assistant coach at Springfield during the 2004 season where he was responsible for practice planning, on-court training, scouting and match preparation. Short has also served as a head coach for two years with the Rochester Volleyball Club (15-and-under and 16-and-under boys), and he has experience working at numerous summer camps and clinics throughout the East coast. Short received his bachelor's degree in movement and sport studies at Springfield College in 2003. He is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). "I'm excited to have Tucker join the staff here at Buffalo," said Lodes. "I've known him for many years and have had numerous opportunities to work with him, including when he spent time as a volunteer assistant at North Carolina when I was there. Tucker has also been involved with my camps for the last seven years. He comes with an outstanding court presence and the team will benefit from his great enthusiasm as a coach. Based on his success as a player, I'm sure that Tucker knows what it takes to win, and I'm confident he will be a valuable asset as our program develops."
