Volleyball Announces SigneesBUFFALO, NY - Head volleyball coach Nadine Lilavois has announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic endeavors at the University at Buffalo beginning with the 2001-02 school year. Freshmen Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors), Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and Erin Edrosolan (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) will attend UB and begin competing with the volleyball team in the fall. Henry, a 5-9 outside hitter from Buffalo, was a four-year letterwinner at City Honors High School, playing for head coach Debra Matos. Henry led her team to four Buffalo City Championships and to four sectional championships, as well as leading the Centaurs to the Far West Regional Championship title in 1997 and 1999 and to the New York State finals in both of those seasons. Henry was a three-time All-Western New York selection and an All-State selection as a junior. A team captain as a senior, she also participated in the Super Senior Game and in the Empire State Games. Henry has also played in the Cheetah Junior Volleyball Club program since eighth grade. Schrantz is a 5-10 right side and outside hitter who led Lancaster High School to the ECIC Division I Championship title and to the sectional finals as a senior. A three-year letterwinner and one-year captain for head coach Sue Pernick, Schrantz was an All-Western New York selection as a junior and a senior and an All-ECIC pick as a senior. Like Henry, Schrantz has also been a member of the Cheetah Junior Volleyball Club program since eighth grade. "Both Katie and Molly are considered among the top players in Western New York," said Lilavois. "That's part of my recruiting mission here at Buffalo - to bring in the best players from this area. We started that last year by bringing in Lindsay Matikosh and Alexis Bouie, and now Katie and Molly will join them next year. Both athletes are very strong physically and have a good knowledge of the game. Molly is very versatile and can play any position - right side, middle, outside, setter. Katie is also very strong academically. Both of these athletes will be great assets to our program." Edrosolan is a 5-7 setter/outside hitter/defensive specialist and is Lilavois' first recruit to UB from California, a state well known for its volleyball talent. She is a three-year letterwinner and a two-time captain for head coach Ed Bond at Newbury Park High School and is also a member of the Thunder, one of the top club teams in California, playing as an outside hitter and a defensive specialist on the top 18-and-under team and setting for the No. 2 18-and-under team. "We're excited to have Erin coming from California to join our program next season," said Lilavois. "She will primarily be our backup setter to Larissa LaCour, but her versatility will allow us to use her in several positions if need be." The Bulls open their 2001 season by hosting Canisius, St. John's and Stony Brook in the
UB Morgan Classic Invitational on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. |
