Volleyball Announces 2007 Award Winners
Garcia was named the team’s most valuable player after leading the team in digs with 438. During this past season, Garcia became UB’s all-time leader in career digs and following her four-year career, Garcia was drafted to the Ligo de Voleibol Superior Feminino in Puerto Rico. Garcia is already UB’s all-time leader in single-season digs as well. Garcia also finished tied for second on the team in service aces.
Bignell was named the team’s most improved players as the freshman got better each match that UB played in. Bignell was fourth on the team with 171 kills and her .163 hitting percentage was third on the team. Bignell finished second on the team with 74 total blocks and her 69 block assists led the team. Bignell was one of four players to start in all 33 matches for the Bulls.
Schlegel was named the team’s top newcomer as she started in all 33 games for the Bulls as the team’s setter. Schlegel finished the season with 955 assists in her first year with the Bulls and also led the team with 37 service aces. Schlegel finished second on the team with 263 digs and also provided offense with 85 kills.
Love won the coach’s award for the second straight season. Despite seeing action in just 15 matches, it was Love’s actions off the court that make her a perfect candidate for this award. Love is very active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and she also has done countless hours of community service. The Bulls finished the 2007 season with a 2-31 record, but lost just two seniors following the year. |
