BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team announced its 2007 award winners. Senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) was honored as well as Kristin Bignell (Drayton, Ontario/Norwell District), Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Kate Love (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland).

Garcia was named the team’s most valuable player after leading the team in digs with 438. During this past season, Garcia became UB’s all-time leader in career digs and following her four-year career, Garcia was drafted to the Ligo de Voleibol Superior Feminino in Puerto Rico. Garcia is already UB’s all-time leader in single-season digs as well. Garcia also finished tied for second on the team in service aces.

Love won the coach’s award for the second straight season. Despite seeing action in just 15 matches, it was Love’s actions off the court that make her a perfect candidate for this award. Love is very active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and she also has done countless hours of community service.

The Bulls finished the 2007 season with a 2-31 record, but lost just two seniors following the year.
