Volleyball Award Winners Announced
Molly Schrantz named Most Outstanding; Lizaiha Garcia named Top Newcomer
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team award winners for the 2004 season
were announced at UB's annual Athletic Awards Banquet, held at The Millennium Hotel on Tuesday, May 3.
Senior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster)
was named Most Outstanding Player, while
freshman Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek)
was named Top Newcomer. Junior Amy Brown
(Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) received the Coaches' Award and freshman
Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker)
was named Most Improved Player.
 | | Molly Schrantz | Schrantz, the lone senior on the Bulls' roster in 2004, recorded her 1,000th career dig
against Miami (OH) on November 5, making her just the ninth player in UB volleyball history to accomplish
the feat. She finished her career with 1,020 career digs (ninth all-time in UB volleyball history) and
994 career kills (eighth all-time in UB volleyball history). Schrantz averaged 2.44 kills per game and
2.34 digs per game in 2004, both second on the team.
 | | Lizaiha Garcia | Garcia, the team's libero, finished her freshman campaign with a team-leading 407 digs, tied
for seventh all-time in UB volleyball history. Her 3.88 digs per game average was 11th in the
Mid-American Conference and is the third-highest single-season average in UB volleyball history. Garcia
recorded a season-high 30 digs in a 3-1 loss at Eastern Michigan on September 25, which is the most digs
recorded by a Buffalo player since Somer Deschambault had 32 in a 3-1 loss to Kent State on
November 12, 1999. Garcia was named to the All-Tournament Team at both the Montana State Tournament and
the James Madison Tournament.
 | | Amy Brown | Brown appeared in 25 matches during an injury-plagued 2004 season. She averaged 9.75
assists per game, the second-highest single-season average in UB volleyball history behind her own mark
of 11.10 set in 2003. Brown had a career-high 68 assists against Dartmouth at the Montana State
Tournament and a career-high six kills in a 3-1 win over Stony Brook at the Western New York Invitational.
She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the James Madison Tournament after averaging
8.45 assists, 1.64 digs and 0.73 blocks in Buffalo's three matches. Brown also averaged 2.14 digs per
game in 2004, tied for third on the team. She currently has 3,065 career assists, third all-time in UB
volleyball history, and 698 career digs.
 | | Sarah Streib | Streib appeared in 26 matches in 2004, starting two. She established herself as one of the
Bulls' top servers as the season went on, finishing tops on the team with 0.26 service aces per game.
Streib averaged 0.43 kills and 0.93 digs per game during her freshman campaign. She recorded a
career-high six kills versus Akron on October 10 and a career-high 10 digs versus Marshall on October 31. She
had a career-high three service aces against both Dartmouth on September 11 and Kent State on October 8.
