BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team award winners for the 2005 season were announced at UB's annual Athletic Awards Banquet, held at The Millennium Hotel on Tuesday, May 2. Senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) was named Most Outstanding Player, while freshman Kate Love (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was named Top Newcomer. Junior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) received the Coaches' Award and junior Jenna Mape (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) was named Most Improved Player.

Brown was one of two seniors on the squad last season, serving as the team's co-captain. The fourth-year setter finished the season with 1,284 assists on the year, putting her in second place all-time. She also finished second in assists per game. Brown leaves Buffalo as the all-time leader with 4,349 assists, 500 more than the number two athlete on the list. Brown recorded a career-high 77 assists in a five-set match against cross-town rival Canisius.

Love, joined the Bulls following the 2005 season where she played her freshman year at Temple. With hard work and dedication in her first few months as a UB athlete, Love persevered through the transition to be named top newcomer.

Clark had a breakout season for Buffalo, recording career highs in kills, attempts, aces, digs and blocks. Clark entered the UB record books with an 11-block assist performance against Canisius, a school record for a five-set match. Clark, who played the majority of minutes at right side, finished fifth on the team with 228 kills and third on the squad with 316 digs. Clark also finished second on the team in block assists and third in total blocks.

Mape also had her best season in 2005, rewriting her personal bests in all the major categories. Mape finished the season with 274 kills, good for fourth on the team. Prior to the season, Mape had just 23 kills in two years. The junior almost eclipsed that in one game, setting a career high with a 22-kill performance against Toledo on November 11. Mape finished the year third on the team with 22 service aces.
