BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team and third-year head coach Jim Lodes have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2007 season. The Bulls will host tournaments in back-to-back weekends to start off the season, including the inaugural University at Buffalo Classic, set to begin on Aug. 24.

UB will welcome North Carolina from the ACC and Baylor from the Big XII, as well as fellow SUNY member, Stony Brook to the season-opening tournament. Buffalo will open play against Baylor on Aug. 24 at 7:00 pm.

The Bulls will host Valparaiso, South Florida, West Virgina and Albany the following weekend at the Western New York Invitational from Friday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, September 2. The Bulls will participate in two other tournaments during the month of September – at Pittsburgh, taking on the host Panthers, Alabama-Birmingham and George Mason, and at Coastal Carolina, taking on the host Chanticleers, Delaware and Gardner Webb. UB will also host Niagara on Sep. 5, while it will travel to Syracuse on Aug. 28 and Canisius on Sep. 11 to round out non-conference play. Albany and Alabama-Birmingham joined MAC rival, Ohio in the 2006 NCAA Championship field.

"We have put together a very competitive schedule for the 2007 season," said Lodes "It is one that will challenge our athletes early and often, but most importantly it will get them ready for Mid-American Conference play."

"We are very excited to be hosting tournaments during the first two weekends of play, including the first University at Buffalo Classic," Lodes added.

Buffalo's Mid-American Conference schedule will begin on the weekend of Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22 when the Bulls play host to defending MAC Champion Ohio and Kent State. The 16-match conference slate will see the Bulls play each member of the East Division (Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami and Ohio) twice, both home and away, and each member of the West Division once (on the road against Ball State, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan and home against Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan). The Bulls end the regular season with a three-match homestand in November, culminating on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Miami (OH).

For the fifth season, every MAC school will qualify for the Mid-American Conference Tournament, and first-round matches will take place on Tuesday, November 13 on the campus sites of the higher seeds. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final match will be on Friday, November 16, Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18 in Toledo, OH.
