UB Volleyball Releases 2006 Schedule
The Bulls will host Quinnipiac, Youngstown State and Coastal Carolina at the Western New York Invitational from Friday, September 1 through Saturday, September 2, which opens the home portion of the schedule. The Bulls will participate in two other tournaments during the month of September – at Holy Cross, taking on the host Crusaders, Rhode Island and Army, and at Cornell, taking on the host Big Red, Binghamton and St. John's. Cornell and Binghamton were both participants in the NCAA Tournament last season. Single matches at home against Syracuse (September 5) and Canisius (September 12) and road matches at Niagara (September 19) and IPFW (October 14) will round out the non-conference slate. “I’m excited for the 2006 season to begin," said Lodes. "Our schedule prior to the MAC beginning is excellent. We will play Binghamton and Cornell whom each won its conference and went to the NCAA’s. Army and North Carolina A&T finished second in its conferences. Syracuse, Charlotte, Niagara and Coastal Carolina each made the semifinals, while St. John’s, Davidson and High Point reached its respective quarterfinal. The MAC will again be very strong this year. This schedule will provide us an excellent opportunity to test ourselves against quality competition as we begin our quest to compete in the conference.” Buffalo's Mid-American Conference schedule will begin on the weekend of Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23 when the Bulls play host to Kent State and defending MAC Champion Ohio. The 16-match conference slate will see the Bulls play each member of the East Division (Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami and Ohio) twice, both home and away, and each member of the West Division once (at home against Ball State, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan and on the road against Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan). The Bulls end the regular season with a four-match road trip during the first two weeks of November, travelling to Toledo, Akron, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. For the fourth season, every MAC school will qualify for the Mid-American Conference Tournament, and first-round matches will take place on Tuesday, November 14 on the campus sites of the higher seeds. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final match will be on Friday, November 17, Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19 in Toledo, OH.
