Bulls Sign Four Volleyball RecruitsBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's volleyball coach Nadine Lilavois today announced the signing of four players to join the Bulls for the 2000 season. Among those joining the squad are a pair of local products, Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion). Also inking with the Bulls are junior college transfer Ellie Whitescarver (Sarasota, FL/Pasco-Hernando College) and University of San Francisco transfer Emily Dills (East Bethany, NY/Pavilion). Matikosh joins the Bulls with some impressive credentials including being selected as the 1999 Gatorade New York State High School Player of the Year. The 5-10 outside hitter led North Tonawanda High School to three consecutive Class A State Championships (1997-99) and also played on two gold medal winning Empire State Games Western New York scholastic squads (1998-99). Matikosh also has earned All-Western New York and All-Niagara Frontier League honors. "Lindsay Matikosh will bring ball control to the team as well as a powerful attack," stated Lilavois. "She will add court experience to our program. At the net, she will be respected by our opponents and will make her presence felt." Bouie led Albion High School to a 19-0 record in 1999, the first Niagara-Orleans League title in school history, after missing the 1998 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. She was selected to the All-Western New York second team in 1999, played in the United States Scholar-Athlete Games in 1998 earning a bronze medal and played for the Buffalo Cheetah Club team. "She has gained a lot of experience at the club level," said Lilavois. "She is the player we're going to mold into the caliber of middle blocker UB would like to produce over the next four years. She will help to diversify our offense." Whitescarver joins the squad after playing two seasons on the junior college level at Pasco-Hernando College in New Port Richey, Florida. The 5-10 junior will see time in the middle and right side. "Since she has two years of college experience under her belt, we expect her to bring maturity to our front line," said Lilavois. "She will be a major asset on the right side for us." Dills returns to Western New York after playing her freshman season at San Francisco. In 1999, she saw limited action accumulating 21 kills and 16 blocks with the Dons of the West Coast Conference. She also has played for the Cheetah program. "She's well known in the community as one of the best players the club has produced," stated Lilavois. "She will definitely be an asset to this program for the next three years." Lilavois is entering her second season as head coach and is very pleased with her second recruiting class, Lilavois said, "I expect the four newcomers to contribute in every game and at every position. This year we are going to win some big matches in the MAC." The Bulls, members of the Mid-American Conference, open the 2000 season with the UB
Invitational September 1-2 against Bucknell, Providence and Canisius. |
