Two More Added For 2007-08 Season
“We are very excited to be adding two more quality individuals to our volleyball program,” said Lodes. “Richelle and Kristin are not only great volleyball players, but they are also outstanding young women.” Bigelow, who will see time as an outside hitter, was not only a volleyball standout at Dakota High School, but also set school records in track and field. Bigelow was on the academic and athletic honor roll during the 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons and was a selection to the All-State Academic Team in 2004-05 for volleyball and track and in 2005-06 for volleyball. Athletically, the accolades continue for Bigelow who was an All-Conference selection in volleyball in 2004-05 and again during her senior season of 2006-07. She was also a state qualifier and All-conference selection in the 100-meter hurdles in 2004-05 where she went on to set the Dakota Ridge High School record for the 100-meter hurdles. Bigelow is a standout for the Juggernaut Volleyball Club. “Richelle is a great athlete, but more importantly she comes here as a complete volleyball player,” said Lodes. “Her style of play compliments the other newcomers we are bringing in and system wise she will fit in well with our team.” Bignell, a 6’3” middle blocker, will be UB’s tallest player when she steps on campus this summer. Bignell was a member of the Waterloo Tigers Volleyball Club. In addition to playing middle blocker, Bignell also saw time on the right side for the Tigers. She was also a member of the High Performance camp for the Ontario Volleyball Association. Bignell’s achievements are not limited to her club as she served as a star middle for her high school team at Norwell District, leading them to two consecutive titles at the Central Western Ontario Secondary School Association Championships and twice to the consolation finals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association Championships. “Kristin is extremely athletic and can touch over 10 feet,” said Lodes. “She is very quick and once she becomes more comfortable playing Division I volleyball, she has the opportunity to become something special.” Bigelow and Bignell join Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Marisa Hornbaker (Colorado Springs, CO/Colorado Springs Christian) who signed with UB earlier this year. |
