Four Bulls Named to MAC Volleyball Academic Honor RollBUFFALO, NY Four members of the University at Buffalo volleyball team were named to the Mid-American Conference's 2001 Volleyball Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Seniors Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip), Amelia Liddle (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) and Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and sophomore Becky Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood) all received recognition from the MAC for their academic and athletic performance. To be eligible for the MAC Honor Roll, student-athletes must obtain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, earn a varsity letter for the current season and have attended the institution for a full year. In addition to their MAC Academic Honor Roll recognition, Ashare and Liddle were also named to the Academic All-MAC team, which includes those honor roll members who hold a GPA of 3.25 or higher and participated in at least 50 percent of their teams' matches during the season. Ashare, a psychology major, finished second on the squad in 2001 with 200 kills (2.44 per
game) and with 58 blocks (0.71 per game). Liddle, a physical therapy major, had 89 kills (1.20 per game),
58 digs (0.78 per game) and 49 blocks (0.66 per game). LaCour finished the season with 1,009
assists (9.61 per game), a total that ranks seventh on Buffalo's single-season assists list. The
management major also finished her career with 2,381 assists, ranking her fourth all time at UB. Shiels, a
psychology major, recorded her 1,000th career kill this past season, becoming just the sixth player in Buffalo
volleyball history to reach that milestone. She finished her senior season with 91 kills (1.86 per game) and
51 digs (1.04 per game). |
