Women's Volleyball 2-2 at Navy Tournament

The Bulls women's volleyball team went 2-2 this weekend at the Navy Tournament in their season opener and in the process helped 18th year head coach Bob Maxwell win his 400th career game.

UB opened the tournament on Friday with a loss to the ACC's Virginia, 15-5, 15-6, 15-8 but bounced back later that night defeating the host team Navy in four games, 13-15, 15-11, 15-8, 15-10 to give Maxwell his 400th career win. Four Bulls had double figures in kills with senior middle hitter Aprille Sweeting (Hilton, NY/Hilton) leading the way with 15. Junior middle hitter Johanna Lehman (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye) and freshman middle hitter Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) had 12 apiece while freshman Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) had 10. Lehman also had five block solos in the victory.

On Sunday the Bulls once again gave up the first of two matches for the day, 15-2, 15-9, 15-5 to the Big Ten's Minnesota. Sweeting had six kills in the loss. The Bulls managed to end the day and the tournament however on a high note defeating Loyola in five games, 10-15, 15-10,15-8, 9-15, 18-16. Barfuss, who was named to the all tournament team had 18 kills and fourteen digs in the win.

The Bulls face Western New York rival St. Bonaventure on Wednesday (9/9) in Alumni Arena at 7:00pm.
