Bulls go 2-1 in Big Red Invitational

The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team went 2-1 this weekend in Ithaca, NY (9/11-12) at the Cornell Big Red Invitational. On Friday (9/11) the Bulls spilt 1-1 losing to Northeastern in a three-game sweep in Match 2 of the Invitational and defeating host Cornell in Match 5 of the day, 3-1. The Bulls lost to Northeastern 15-6, 15-9, 15-6 and were led by seniors middle hitter Aprille Sweeting (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and outside hitter Chassey Stubler (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) with seven kills each. In the victory over Cornell, the Bulls were led by freshman standout middle hitter Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn ) who had nine kills and six digs in the victory. The Bulls defeated the Big Red, 15-11, 15-11, 15-13.

On Saturday (9/12) the Bulls defeated Lafayette College in a three-game sweep, 15-1, 15-0, 15-9. The Bulls were led by freshman middle hitter Ann Williams (Northport, NY/Northport) with nine kills in the victory.

Junior Somer Deschambault (Midland, ONT/St. Theresa's) was named to the Big Red Invitational All-Tournament Team. Deschambault averaged 16 assists and five digs per match for the tourney.

The Bulls will play at home this weekend against Youngstown State on Friday (9/18) at 7:00pm and will face Columbia and St. Francis (PA) on Saturday (9/19) at 1:00 and 7:00pm. All games will take place in Alumni Arena.
