Women's Volleyball News - 9/15

The women's volleyball team lost four games this weekend at the Kansas Invitational (Lawrence, Kansas) to give the Bulls a 3-9 record for the season. Buffalo faced future MAC (Mid-American Conference) opponent Toledo in the first match of the tournament on Friday (9/12). The Bulls started strong winning the first match, 15-12. But, Toledo regained its momentum quickly to win the next three games, 15-8, 16-14, 15-6. Junior outside hitter Corrin Hirst (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) led the way for the Bulls against Toledo with ten kills. Buffalo took on Kansas in the second match of the day and lost in three matches, 13-15, 4-15, 8-15. Hirst contributed seven kills in the match for the Bulls.

On Saturday (9/13), UB was defeated by Mid-Continent Conference member UMKC in four games, 15-5, 12-15, 7-15, 9-15. Junior outside hitter Amy Burda (Lafayette, Ny/Lafayette) connected on 14 kills and contributed eight digs for the Bulls. In the second match on Saturday against Butler University(10-0), the Bulls lost in four games, 15-5, 12-15,15-13, 16-14. Burda contributed 16 kills and 12 digs, while senior middle hitter Kathy Brinkworth (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) added nine kills and 11 digs. Both Brinkworth and senior middle hitter Nancy Rose were named to the Kansas Invitational All-Tournament Team.

The Bulls return to action this Friday (9/19) in the Mississippi State Tournament at 3:00 pm against Southwest Louisiana. UB will also face Mississippi State at 7:00pm on Friday (9/19) and Troy State and Austin Peay at 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday (9/20).
