BUFFALO, NY- After another impressive fall semester, the University at Buffalo’s Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) has made the collegiate tennis community take notice of her abilities. The senior earned a ranking of 21st in the current East Regional poll conducted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and sportswear company Fila.

Novaceanu finished the fall season with a 9-3 singles record and a 4-2 mark in doubles play. Novaceanu began the season with a championship at the Army Invitational as she was the top-ranked player is the second singles flight. At Bucknell, Novaceanu finished as a finalist in the Flight “A” bracket and during that tournament became the all-time leader in singles victories at UB. Novaceanu was one of a record four UB players to go to the ITA Regionals in UB’s final competition of the fall where she received a number 18 ranking in the tournament. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Novaceanu won one match before falling in the round of 32. Her loss in the round of 32, was to Inga Bergman of Virginia Tech who is currently ranked 10th in the East.

This is the second straight year that Novaceanu has been recognized by the ITA and Fila. Last season, she was ranked 22nd in the regional poll as she helped UB to its second straight appearance in the Mid-American Conference championship match.

Novaceanu and the rest of the Bulls begin spring play on February 2, 2008 when they host Niagara at 2:00 pm.
