Doubles Squad Advances at ITA Regionals

Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu score two wins, defeat fourth-seeded duo

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University at Buffalo's doubles tandem of Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) scored two wins on Saturday to move into the round of 16 at the ITA East Regional Championships held at the University of Pennsylvania.

Harijanto and Popescu opened play on Saturday with an 8-2 victory over Ana Mungo and Alice Chen of UMBC in the first round. The pair then went on to the round of 32 where they defeated the tournament's fourth-seeded combo, Penn's Ekaterina Kosminskaya and Alexa Ely, 8-5. The Penn duo is the highest seed to be eliminated thus far in doubles play.

The UB pair will face Erin Clark and Pamela Duran of Richmond on Sunday in the round of 16.

Play continues through Tuesday.
