Women's Tennis Falls to Marist

Weekend Match Halts Perfect Start

ST. BONAVENTURE, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team continued competition in its 2001-02 season on Saturday, October 13 with a 4-3 loss to Marist.

At first singles, junior Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) fell to Diana Perachio, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Michaela Kollarova (Slovak Republic/Bratislava) won the second singles championship with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Amanda Doetsch. At third singles, senior Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) defeated Kristy Salloum, 7-6, 7-5. Senior Jennifer Wong (Penfield, NY/Penfield) fell to Kara Bliss at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3. At fifth singles, senior Meaghan Partelow (Lyons, NY/Lyons) defeated Jen Edwards, 4-6, 7-6, 10-2. Freshman Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) was defeated by Courtney McGeeven, 6-4, 6-2, at sixth singles.

The Bulls struggled with the doubles matches. Maynard and Kollarova were defeated at first singles by Doetsch and Perachio, 8-0. Seniors Amarasinghe and Wong were defeated 8-2 by Bliss and Salloum at second singles. Senior Anne Schule (Snyder, NY/Amherst) and sophomore Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/ Cheektowaga) were defeated by McGeeven and Edwards at third singles, 8-3.

The Bulls will be playing the final match of their fall season on October 20 at Niagara University.
