BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in dual-meet play Saturday morning with a 7-0 decision over visiting St. Francis (PA) University at UB's University Tennis Club. With the loss, St. Francis falls to 1-5 overall in the 2004-05 season.

The Bulls opened the match with a pair of shutout wins at the number one and two spots to clinch the doubles point. UB's top doubles duo of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Sinapore/Raffles) rolled past St. Francis' Lesley Wenzel and Roxy Ionescu, 8-0. The number two team of Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) also breezed past Rebecca Seybold and Danielle Gauthier, 8-0. The number three doubles team of Onessa Williams (Albany, NY/Albany) and Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) downed Eva Keresztes and Mallary Palmer by an 8-1 margin. The two teams also played a doubles exhibition match with UB's Jamie Jackson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) and Elizabeth Paoletti (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) scoring an 8-2 win over Lauren Gamerro and Johnna Jackson.

After a brief rain delay, the Bulls finished off the match with a sweep of the singles competitions. At number one, Novaceanu steamrolled past Wenzel, 6-0, 6-1. At number two, Ortman defeated Ionescu, 6-2, 6-1. UB picked "double-bagel" victories at numbers three and four. At number three, Nenova defeated Palmer, 6-0, 6-0, while at number four, Fischer disposed of Palmer by the same score. At number five, Jacob knocked off Keresztes, 6-1, 6-1.

The number six match featured sisters Jamie Jackson of UB and Johnna Jackson of St. Francis playing against each other. In their first intercollegiate match against each other, little sister Jamie defeated her big sister Johnna, 6-2, 6-0 and give the Bulls the shutout.

Two exhibition singles matches were also contested. Williams defeated Gauthier, 6-1, 6-2. The other exhibition was stopped in the second set by rain. Paoletti and Seybold were tied 4-4 in the second set after Seybold had won the first set, 6-2, when another shower forced the players off the court.

UB travels to Binghamton to participate in next weekend's Binghamton Invitational. Aside from the Bulls and Bearcats, Colgate, Siena and Albany will also send squads to the meet.
