MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The University at Buffalo women’s
tennis team completed play at the Gopher Invite on Sunday and had some
impressive performances in doubles as three different teams picked up
titles at the tournament.
In the first doubles flight, the team of Denise Harijanto
and Diana Popescu defeated Abby Buxton and Jennifer
Holmberg from Nebraska, 9-7, to claim the consolation championship. In
second doubles, Aleksandra Petrova and Tamara
Markovic also claimed a consolation championship as they
defeated Liza Wischer and Reka Keleman from Iowa St., 8-5. In the third
doubles flight, Anna Subenkova and Kira Golenko
finished a perfect 3-0 as they defeated Xu Chang and Marcelo Rivero
from Eastern Michigan, 8-6, in the final round of play to take the
flight.

In singles action, Harijanto and Markovic both lost in their bid for
third place finishes as Harijanto fell to Madeleine Geibert from
Nebraska, 6-1, 6-4 and Markovic fell to Miriam Westerink of Eastern
Michigan, 6-2, 6-2.
The Bulls will be back in action this upcoming weekend as Harijanto
and Popescu will compete at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American
Championships on the campus of UCLA.
