UB Netters Dump St. Francis, 5-2BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team defeated St. Francis (Pa.), 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the UB Tennis Center. The victory improves the Bulls' fall mark to 2-1 following yesterday's 6-1 win at St. Bonaventure. The Bulls opened the match by winning the doubles point. All three UB duos cruised to wins as number one team Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) defeated Amy Croskey and Jamie DeLorie, 8-1. Number two duo Helen Lynch (Hobart, Tasmania/St. Michael's Collegiate) and Michaela Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and third team Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) defeated their Red Flash opponents by identical 8-0 scores. UB took four of the six singles matches. Ortman, at number two, downed Lesley Wenzel, 6-0, 6-3. Lynch defeated DeLorie, 6-3, 6-4 at number three. Number five Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden) defeated Kendra Fewell, 6-2, 6-3, and Ugowski, at number six, defeated Wanschalk, 6-4, 6-2. St. Francis' Croskey defeated Maynard in the number one match, 7-5, 6-4, and UB's Wittman fell to Byrer, 6-1, 6-2, in the number four match. The Bulls head for the St. Bonaventure Tournament for their next action this Friday through Sunday.
