Bulls Defeat St. Bonaventure, 6-1ST. BONAVENTURE, NY - UB's women's tennis team scored a 6-1 win over local rival St. Bonaventure University on Saturday to even the Bulls' record at 1-1. UB scored the doubles point winning all three matches. The Bulls picked up a victory by default at number three and Helen Lynch (Hobart, Tasmania/St. Michael's Collegiate) and Michaela Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) won 8-2 at number two over Jennifer Iannone and Kasey Mutzel. The number one match was decided in a 7-4 tiebreaker game with UB's Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) taking the 9-8 win over Michelle Kearney and Natalie Rumpel. The Bulls won five of six singles matches to complete the day. Maynard defeated Kearney, 6-3, 6-3, at number one. Ortman downed Iannone, 6-1, 6-1, at number three. Lynch dropped Mutzel, 6-1, 6-2, at number four. Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) breezed past Erin Sullivan, 6-1, 6-0, at number five. UB's Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden) won by default at number six. The lone point Bonnies point was scored when Kollarova was forced to default to Rumpel in the number two match. UB hosts St. Francis tomorrow at the UB Tennis Center for a 10:00 am match. The Bulls return to the Southern Tier for the St. Bonaventure Tournament starting on September 27.
