PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team is seeing some strong competition as the Bulls are facing three strong national programs in the Princeton Invitational. The Bulls are in the field with Atlantic Coast Conference representative Virginia Tech and Ivy League members Penn and Princeton.

Friday's matches were moved indoors due to rain with the Bulls falling in all seven contests, although the three matches against Penn were competitive with one match being decided by a 9-8 count and two others by 8-5 scores.

On Saturday as competition moved outdoors, the Bulls were swept in doubles play by Princeton in three contests. The Bulls then moved on to singles matches but lost all seven to Virginia Tech. UB went 1-6 in singles play against Penn. The lone singles win for the Bulls was by Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorge, Romania/Economic) as she defeated the Quakers' Maria Anisimova in a third-set super-tiebreaker. Stan won the opening set, 6-0, but fell in the second, 6-3. She then disposed of her opponent in the 10-point super-tiebreaker by a 10-5 margin. Stan also went to a third set with Virginia Tech's Jasmin Hamza, falling 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker

Play concludes on Sunday. Complete results follow.
