Alida Gallovits Joins UB Women's Tennis Staff
Gallovits was the number one singles and doubles player at Florida State, and she was her team's Most Valuable Player in 2001 and an All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team honoree from 1999 to 2001. Gallovits was ranked in the top 35 in the NCAA Division I in both singles and doubles during her collegiate career, and she was the recipient of an Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Award as a senior in 2002. She was also chosen to the All-ACC 50th Anniversary Team. Prior to attending Florida State, Gallovits was a professional tennis player from 1994 to 1998, competing on the WTA Tour and reaching a top ranking of 368th in the world. She participated in tournaments in Egypt, Macedonia, Slovenia, Israel, Bulgaria and Turkey, winning three $10,000 tournaments and placing second once and third on two occasions. At the Junior National Championships, she placed second in doubles and fourth in singles in 1994 and third in singles in 1995. Gallovits graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State in the spring of 2003 with a degree
in marketing, multinational business and finance. She was the winner of the
Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship Award in 2002 and FSU's Overall Female Golden Torch Award for
Academic Excellence in 2000. Gallovits was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete
All-American in 2001 and 2002, a Verizon Academic All-District honoree from 1999 to 2002 and a
member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll and Florida State's Dean's List. She is
also currently enrolled in UB's MBA program. |
