MAC champions honored by the Buffalo Spree as best College Sports Team

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team capped off its magical season of 2008 with another award on Thursday night as it was honored as the Best College Sports Team in the Best of Western New York issue of the Buffalo Spree.

The Bulls, who claimed their first ever Mid-American Conference title and became the first UB team to go to the NCAA Tournament, was one of 25 winners in the sports/outdoors category of the Best of WNY awards. The Bulls were also one of three teams honored as the Orchard Park men’s lacrosse team was name the High School Team of the Year and the Buffalo Bandits were awarded as the area’s Favorite Team.

UB completed a fantastic season where it defeated nationally-ranked Western Michigan in the MAC Championship match by coming back from a 3-0 deficit to claim the title. The Bulls then went on to the NCAA Tournament where they played UCLA, the eventual National Champion.

The Buffalo Spree is in its third year of the Best of WNY awards and this was the second year that the publication gave an award for the Best College Sports Team.
