BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo was well-represented at the recently-completed Muny Tennis Championships in Buffalo. Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis), who will be a junior on the UB men's tennis team, stole the show by winning three titles - the men's open singles, the men's open doubles and the mixed open doubles. Zieziula teamed with fellow UB junior Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) to win the men's open doubles title and with Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst), entering her sophomore year on the UB women's tennis team, to win the mixed open doubles title.

Zieziula earned a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win, overcoming a 3-0 deficit in the third set, in the open singles final over Ken White, a former UB tennis player and the only men's tennis player in UB history to attain All-America status. Zieziula and Rocchio combined for a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 win over Justin Brtko, another former UB tennis player, and Steve Dahm to take the men's open doubles title, and Zieziula and Ortman defeated Dahm and Jenny Schneider, 6-4, 7-6, for the mixed open doubles title.

Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), who will be a senior on the UB women's tennis team this season, was the runner-up in the women's 3.5 singles competition, falling to Jenna Suffoletto, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final match. Wittman also advanced to the finals of the women's 8.0 doubles competition with teammate and junior-to-be Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda). They finished in second place after a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Kristin Janese and Andrea Abels.
