BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) was one of eight players named to the 2008 Academic All-MAC Team the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. The academic All-MAC team was selected by the league’s faculty athletic representatives for their success in the classroom and on the tennis court.

Harijanto, sophomore management major with a 3.81 grade point average, played the majority of the season at second singles and first doubles for the Bulls. Harijanto currently has a singles record of 21-10, including an 8-4 record at second singles where she has spent most of the season. Harijanto also teamed up with freshman Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) in doubles action as the two played at first doubles for the Bulls compiling a 20-8 overall record. The team is 14-6 at first doubles as they had a 6-2 mark at that spot in MAC play. Harijanto was named to the All-MAC Second Team for a second straight season prior to the MAC Tournament.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league’s faculty athletic representatives. The total number of honorees is set for a specific sport or 33 percent of all nominees, whichever is greater.

Harijanto and the Bulls are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they prepare for their NCAA Tournament match against UCLA. The Bulls and Bruins will get things started at 1:00 pm PDT.
