BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's tennis player Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference women's team, as voted by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives. The league announced the results on Friday afternoon at the conference offices in Cleveland. The senior was one of 10 women to earn the honor from the league.

Ortman, a social sciences major with a 3.60 grade point average, finished a successful career as UB's winningest singles and doubles player, scoring 59 wins in both disciplines over her four seasons. In the 2005-06 season, she posted a 19-7 singles and 19-8 doubles mark. The 19 singles wins were most in one year for Ortman and helped propel the Bulls to the championship match of the MAC Tournament. She also earned the MAC Player of the Week award following a regular season finale win against Ball State that clinched second place in the league for the Bulls. Off the court, she is a UB Scholar-Athlete. MAC Commissioner’s Award, MAC President’s Award and SUNY Chancellor's Award winner. She is also a member of the UB Mortar Board and Golden Key International Honour Societies and received UB's Blue and White Club Community Service Award.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
