Bulls Drop First-Round Matchup to Rockets, 4-0

BUFFALO, NY - The ninth-seeded University at Buffalo women's tennis team dropped its Mid-American Conference first-round matchup to the eighth-seeded Toledo Rockets, 4-0, this morning.

With the loss, UB finishes its season 3-16 overall and 1-8 in conference matches.

"I am really proud of our girls for the way they have played all season," said head coach Kathy Twist. "We have overcome so much this season, having lost three of our top six girls. I thought we stepped up and played well today."

Sophomore Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and junior Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) were defeated 8-5 at first doubles.

Freshman Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and junior Anne Schule (Snyder, NY/Amherst) dropped their second-doubles match, 8-0.

At third doubles, juniors Kendra Pyke (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Jennifer Wong (Penfield, NY/Penfield) lost, 8-5.

With the doubles point already won, the Rockets needed just three wins in singles competition.
