Bulls Split Final Weekend Of Play

The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team split its matches during the final weekend of regular season action. The Bulls defeated Toledo in a five hour match on Friday, 5-2, before finishing on the short-end of a 4-3 decision against Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The Bulls finished the regular season with a 9-8 record and a 4-4 mark in the conference, as they take the six seed heading into this weekend’s MAC Championships.

Popescu And Stan Continue To Impress

Junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) and freshman Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) each picked up singles wins against Toledo and Eastern Michigan and remain tied for the team lead with 24 wins. Stan won the clinching point in the match against Toledo as both Stan and Popescu were in tight three-set matches. Not long after Stan’s victory, Popescu defeated her opponent for the 5-2 final. Against the Eagles, Popescu took her match in straight sets and Stan was the last one on the court, outlasting Sandra Wikstrom, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (8).
