WOMEN'S TENNIS

Bulls Defeated By Northern Illinois 6-1

The University at Buffalo dropped to 5-14 overall and 0-8 in the Mid-American Conference with their 6-1 loss to Northern Illinois (7-12, 3-5) in women's tennis action at the Village Glen Tennis Club Friday afternoon.

The Bulls' lone point on the afternoon was won by Anne Schule (Snyder, NY/Amherst) as her opponent Molly Opel was forced to default due to an injury.

Senior Gloria Rodriguez (Ridge, NY/Longwood), playing in her first match of the spring season, was UB's strongest player of match falling in the sixth singles match to Ashley Brunk 6-4, 6-2. Rodriguez is now 4-1 in singles play this season.

The second doubles team of Michelle Mercer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) were the Bulls top tandem dropping an 8-4 match to Opel and Carrie Townsend.

UB concludes their regular season Saturday with a match against MAC power Western Michigan at 1:00 pm. The match is scheduled to be held outdoors at the University Tennis Club, however, if weather dictates, the match will be moved indoors to Village Glen.
