Bulls Pick Up Three Wins Against Eastern Michigan

Bulls fall 4-3 in tight contest with the Eagles

BUFFALO, NY- The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team wrapped up the regular season with narrow 4-3 loss against Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls took three singles victories, but were unable to claim the doubles point as they finished the regular season with a 9-8 record and a 4-4 mark in the MAC.

In doubles play, the Bulls picked up a victory at third doubles as the senior duo of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) won a 9-7 decision over Aditi Krishnan and Joanna Woo. The victory was even sweeter for the pair as Saturday’s contest was UB’s senior day.

In singles action, the Bulls claimed three victories as Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) won her match first, defeating Krishnan at second singles, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) and junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) continue to share the team-lead for singles wins as they both picked up victories. Popescu won at third singles as she defeated Catharina Bestehorn, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Stan, who played at fourth singles, won her match against Sandra Wikstrom, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (8).

With the regular season complete the Bulls will now turn their attention to the 2008 MAC Championships which will be hosted by UB. Buffalo’s opponent is still to be determined, but they will get underway with their quarterfinal match on Friday.
