BOWLING GREEN, OH The University at Buffalo women's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 6-1 loss at Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon. UB dropped to 6-13 overall and 0-9 in league play as the team heads into the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament as the 10th seed. Bowling Green improved to 10-10 overall and 5-4 in the MAC.

The lone UB victory on the day was at sixth singles by Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden). Rose disposed of Bowling Green's Lindsey Mix in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

Bowling Green took the doubles, winning all three matches. UB's top doubles duo of Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) dropped an 8-0 decision to Susie Schoenberger and Lisa Maloney. At number two, Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) were defeated, 8-4, by Alyson Gabel and Gaby Coello. UB's number three team of Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) fell to Heidi Romer and Andrea Meister, 8-1.

In the remaining singles matches, Maynard was defeated by Schoenberger, 6-2, 6-3, at number one. Ortman fell, 6-4, 6-4, to Gabel at number two. Kollarova, at number three, was forced to retire due to injury. She was trailing Coello, 3-1 in the first set, when the match was stopped. Zielinski dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Cameron Benjamin at number four. Wittman was downed, 6-1, 6-2, at number five by Jessica Johnson.

The Bulls travel to Ypsilanti, MI for the MAC Championships starting on Thursday, April 24. UB will face the number seven seeded team, as yet undetermined, in the first round match.
