UB Women's Tennis Falls to EMU, 7-0

Loss completes regular season

YPSILANTI, MI - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team completed the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Eastern Michigan in Mid-American Conference action at the Chippewa Club. The Bulls fall to 8-10 overall, 1-8 in the league while the Eagles improve to 14-5 overall and 7-2 in the MAC.

The Bulls were swept in all nine matches. In the doubles, EMU's top team of Victoria Domina and Ying Kansuthi defeated Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst), 8-4. At second doubles, UB's Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) fell to Jessica Loose and Amalia Lincaru, 8-0. In the number three doubles match, EMU's Marijana Adzic and Kendra Clark downed Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg), 8-2.

UB was unable to score a set in any of the six singles matches, playing with a limited lineup. Ortman, UB's regular at the number two slot, sat out the singles competition forcing the remainder of the lineup to move one spot higher on the ladder. At number one, Nenova dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Domina. At number two, Fischer, playing in Ortman's spot, fell to Lincaru, 6-1, 6-0. Wittman was defeated by Kansuthi, 6-1, 6-0, at number three. At number four, Ugowski lost to Loose, 6-1, 6-1. Number five player Onessa Williams (Albany, NY/Albany/Mohawk Valley CC) fell to Clark, 6-0, 6-0. Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), playing at number six, was defeated by Laura Fernandez, 6-0, 6-1.
